ARISE: A CALL TO CHRISTIAN (KINGDOM) SERVICE

Guideposts

"And ye shall serve the LORD your God, and he shall bless thy bread, and thy water; and I will take sickness away from the midst of thee. There shall nothing cast their young, nor be barren, in thy land: the number of thy days I will fulfil" — Exodus 23:25-26

"So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs. He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep." — John 21:15-16

"I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service." — Romans 12:1

Introduction

As Christians, service is a vital aspect of our walk with God. It makes our walk with God meaningful and fruitful. Without service, a person's walk with God is fake. As a matter of fact, it is not possible for a person to be truly spiritual and not engage in Kingdom service.

The call to serve Christ is an opportunity for man to be used by God to birth and achieve his eternal purpose on earth. It is the allowance a person gives God God to reach others through him.

Believers are primarily saved to serve, so it is out of place to be saved and not engage in service. Every great person in the Bible served God, service to God was their distinguishing identity; their service was borne out of their love for him. Hence, the quality of your service to God is an indication of the quality of your love for God.

Kingdom service is service in the house of God, and it is an avenue for promoting the interest of God on earth with what you have. It is the meeting of needs or filling of gaps in the body of Christ. It is to offer help, kindness or assistance to the end that the body of Christ will be edified. It is the use of our God given resources like time, strength, talents and finances to promote the kingdom of God.

To engage in Christian service is to make a difference or add value in your little way. It is the deployment of your effort, time and ability to offer solutions to an existing problem.

Realities of Christian/Kingdom Service

1. It is a proof and an extension of your love for God — John 21:15-17

2. It is a covenant practice with God — Exodus 23:25-26; covenant of divine blessings (vs 25), divine health (vs 25), and long life (vs 26)

Benefits of Christian (Kingdom) Service

1. Divine Blessings – Exodus 23: 25
2. Divine Health — Exodus 23:25
3. Long life — Exodus 23:26
4. Prosperity — Job 36:11
5. Honour — John 12:26, Proverbs 27:18
6. Distinction — Malachi 3:18

Opportunities for Kingdom Service

1. Personal Evangelism — Matthew 28:19-20

2. Financial Involvement e.g. tithing (Malachi 3:8-12), various givings Deuteronomy 16:16b-17, etc.

3. Church/Christian Ministry (TWE) Involvement — Join a service group (department), and be an active and functional member (John 14:2)

Conditions for Acceptable Christian Service

1. Be a Living Sacrifice: the life of God must have been in you; your heart must be right for your acts to right (Romans 12:1)

2. Humility: pride is an anti-service attitude, it will hinder you from serving, or being recognized in the service of God (John 13:5)

3. Willingness & Joyfulness: if you do not serve God willfully and joyfully, you will be forced to servitude of other nations and their gods, and in sickness, diseases, nakedness, yoke etc (Deuteronomy 28:47-48)

4. Faithfulness: this is a driving force that enables you to take responsibility, with ease (1 Corinthians 4:2). It is the passport for your promotion to the next level (Matthew 25:23, Luke 16:10). Your faithfulness to the service of God is anchored on the integrity of your heart.

5. Commitment: commitment means to be sold out to a course at all cost; it is the driver of interest to its destination. It is also the investment of your time, energy and resources into any given task. Accomplishment in any field is a function of commitment. No one can get more out of life than what he puts into it, in the same way, so, it is in serving God. Whatever a man sows that also shall he reap (Ecclesiastes 9:10, 2 Corinthians 9:6, Luke 16:13)

6. Consistency: consistency is the rule of the game in serving God; if you are not consistent, you can never be a prize winner (Hebrews 3:14, Luke 9:62)

Conclusion

You are at a disadvantage if you are not given to God in active service; there are many things God cannot do with a man whom He has not found useful in his works. You must rise to the call and demand to advance the Kingdom of God through service.

Let us pray!
